Genesis
Vikalp was conceived to lend a much needed support to CHILDLINE and to enable needy individuals to find alternatives or solutions to their problems. At that time, CHILDLINE - an emergency helpline service for children in distress was still in its explorative stage in Goa. Accordingly, Vikalp was constituted as a Public Charitable Trust on 1 August 2000; and registered in Margao on 3 August 2000 under No. 1979 of the Indian Registration Act, 1908.
Name
Vikalp,a term in Sanskrit whichmeans "alternatives".
Target Groups
The poor and needy, irrespective of caste, creed, religion or colour.
Objects of the Trust
The objects of the Trust include :
- to explore, undertake and support new initiatives in social, educational, cultural and developmental activities and programs
- to support and collaborate with individuals, groups, societies, trusts, organisations, etc., seeking better alternatives for the upliftment of the society - in particular the poor and marginalised.
- to provide counselling, under take mediation and conflict resolution and thereby help people cope with and resolve their problems.
- to provide relief to the poor and needy, etc.
About Vikalp Trust
Founders:
Mr. Anil NaikBorkar, a Fine Artist and Mediator and Mr. Agostinho Dias, a Government Surveyor (Retired) and Counsellor, established Vikalp by signing the Deed of Trust on 1 August 2000. They appointed the other Trustees and together, following their inner guidance, led the work of Vikalp. On 19 April 2018, Agostinho left for his heavenly abode. We express our deep appreciation and gratitude to him for his selfless work with Vikalp for over eighteen years.

Vikalp was appointed as a CHILDLINE Support Organisation with a 24-hour helpline for Children in need and of care and protection in South Goa by the
Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, for over a decade.
- By the Chairperson:
Prof. (Mrs) Joan M Rebello was appointed as Memberof the Goa State Commission for Protection of Childs Rights.
- By Trustee:
Mr. Luis F Gomes represented the Trust at the Workshop and Training on "Registration of Children's Homes under Juvenile Justice
